Polestar is leveraging the over-the-air (OTA) software update capability of the Polestar 2 electric sedan, adding some new convenience features for owners.
The biggest feature included in the update the addition of a digital key technology. Following Tesla’s lead, Polestar 2 owners will now be able to use their connected smartphones in addition to the traditional key fob that came with the EV.
“The Polestar Digital Key is one of our most anticipated features, because the convenience of not having to carry a physical key is invaluable,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “Being able to use your phone as the key makes sense especially in an age where our phones take care of most of our daily needs already, and it’s the one device you always carry with you.”
Along with the new key, Polestar also added some vehicle functionality controls to the app. Things like battery status, remote climate start and remote locking can now be done via the app. The automaker said more functions would be added in the future.
