The Polestar 3 is officially a Guinness World Record holder. The Swedish automaker announced that a Polestar 3 Long Range Single-Engine variant set the Guinness World Record for the longest journey travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge.
The Polestar travelled 935.44 km (581.3 miles) and achieved an efficiency of 12.1 kWh/100 km (19.5 kWh/100 miles), which smashed its WLTP range. The vehicle hit its WLTP listed range of 706 km (438 miles) with twenty per cent of its battery still available and pushed through for another 200 plus km. Once the battery showed 0%, the Polestar 3 kept going for another 12.8 km (8 miles) before it reached a charger.
What makes Polestar’s achievement particularly remarkable is that the record-setting SUV had no modifications. It was equipped with stock 20-inch wheels and standard Michelin Sport 4 EV tires. The feat took 22 hours and 57 minutes on public roads in the UK and was completed by a team of three drivers—Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker—who each drove three-hour shifts to remain alert.
Impressive to say the least, but it’s worth noting that this distance is still shy of the longest journey by any electric vehicle on a single charge. That title currently belongs to the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which just last month completed an astonishing 1,205 km (749-mile) drive from St. Moritz, Switzerland to Munich, Germany—surpassing the previous benchmark by 160 km (99 miles).
Verification of the feat was done by a Guinness World Record judge with Webfleet providing independent verified video footage, odometer readings, battery level data and GPS readings.
