NIO drivers complete 10,000 battery swaps in Europe

NIO is one of the Chinese EV companies exporting its battery-swapping technology to other parts of the world. After establishing a presence in the European market, NIO has reported its 10,000th battery swap on the continent.

This milestone comes after the brand recorded its 10,000,000th swap in China. The European milestone was announced on NIO’s Norwegian app. The exchange that took it to the mark happened in Lier, Norway, at 7:55 pm local time on February 21st.

For making the 10,000th swap, user Bjarte has earned a specially engraved NIO Life bottle and a certificate. Other recent swappers will also get a bottle and have a tree planting donated on their behalf.

NIO has 11 battery swap stations in Europe, with six to open soon. The first European station opened for business in Norway in January 2022. The company deployed its first station in Germany last September.

However, NIO owners can charge conventionally from nearly 400,000 charging points across the continent. Drivers can also lease the battery instead of paying for it outright during the car’s purchase.

NIO plans to step up the deployment of the swap stations in Europe after finding success with the model in its home country. It has built a facility in Hungary to assemble and ship the stations to the rest of Europe.

Back home, NIO announced it would add 1,000 new stations this year.
