Monroe County To Add Starlink Mini Terminals To Police Fleet

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will soon outfit its entire fleet with Starlink Mini terminals, ensuring continuous connectivity for deputies, even in areas where traditional communication methods falter.

The Starlink initiative is the brainchild of a collaborative effort between 911 Director Richard Miller, Sheriff Michael Miller, and County Clerk Jeremy Meadows. Their vision was to equip each county deputy with a Starlink Mini terminal mounted in their cruisers, to provide seamless communication capabilities regardless of geographic challenges in Monroe County.

The program was unanimously approved this week, with the Commission highlighting how deputies can maintain constant contact with other law enforcement personnel and the 911 center, even in areas with limited to no radio or cell service.

“This technology offers significant flexibility to deputies, enabling them to utilize it during pursuit operations in remote areas, such as Waiteville, and even operate it as a base station in the middle of a field,” said the Monroe County Commission. (via WVVA)

The scope of the Starlink initiative for Monroe County extends beyond law enforcement. Recognizing the broader benefits of continuous connectivity, the County Commission has also included plans to deploy Starlink terminals at precincts without communication capabilities with the Clerk’s office on Election Day.

Additionally, a terminal will be set up for voter registration, ensuring that electoral processes are not hindered by communication challenges.
