Lucid Gravity Production Kicks Off

Lucid has reached a milestone in its automotive journey as the first Gravity electric SUV rolled off its production line at the Casa Grande, Arizona, plant on December 5, 2024. This marks the company’s expansion into the electric SUV market, following the initial launch of its Air sedan more than three years ago.

Lucid shared the milestone in a social media post on X, highlighting the collaborative effort that brought the Gravity to life. “Production of the Lucid Gravity is now underway. This is a groundbreaking vehicle offering unparalleled space, range, and performance,” the company said.

The Gravity represents Lucid’s second production model and is poised to capitalize on the growing demand for electric SUVs. The Air sedan, while praised for its innovation, faced challenges meeting initial sales expectations. Lucid hopes the Gravity’s versatile design and utility will resonate more strongly with consumers.

The first Gravity to be sold will be the Grand Touring edition, priced at US$94,900. It boasts an impressive range of over 440 miles (708km) per charge, but with options, some of which are surprising for a vehicle at this price point, like a heated steering, can push the price to as much as US$126,500.

Performance-wise, the Gravity Grand Touring is powered by dual electric motors delivering a combined 828 horsepower. It comes standard with a two-row configuration, with an option for a three-row setup, making it an appealing choice for families or those needing extra passenger space.

Lucid plans to release a more affordable Touring variant in late 2025, with a starting price of US$79,900.

The Gravity’s production marks a significant step forward for Lucid as it aims to build on three consecutive quarters of record deliveries for the Air sedan. Deliveries of the Gravity are expected to begin soon in the U.S., with plans to expand to Europe and Canada by mid-2025.

Looking beyond the Gravity, Lucid plans to introduce a midsize EV platform in 2026. This platform will target a wider audience, competing directly with Tesla’s Model Y. If the Gravity succeeds in capturing consumer interest, it could pave the way for Lucid to establish itself as a major player in the electric vehicle market.
