Hyundai repeats World Car of the Year win with IONIQ 6 while Lucid takes home World Luxury Car of the Year

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been named the World Car of the Year at the 2023 World Car Awards. This is the second straight year that Hyundai has taken the title, with the IONIQ 5 winning last year.

The IONIQ 6 beat out the BMW X1/iX1, Alfa Romeo Tonale, BMW 2 Series Coup, Mazda CX-60, Mercedes-Benz C, Nissan Ariya, Nissan Z, Honda HR-V and Kia Niro for the title.

In addition to the World Car of the Year, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 also won World Car Design of the Year and World Electric Car of the Year.

Meanwhile Lucid took home the 2023 World Luxury Car of the Year for the Lucid Air. The Lucid Air beat out the BMW 7 Series, Land Rover Range Roger, Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Genesis G90 for the award.

This is the second time an electric vehicle has won the Luxury Car of the Year award, with the Porsche Taycan winning in 2020. The Lucid Air was named a finalist for the World Electric Car of the Year and World Performance Car of the Year.

Other award winners were Criterion C3 for World Urban Car of the Year and the Kia EV6 GT, which won World Performance Car of the Year.

The World Car Awards are presented each year and are voted on by a jury of 100 international automotive journalists from 32 countries. Voting is done via secret ballot.
