Ford has reported its October 2022 sales and once again the Detroit-based automaker has seen a drop in its overall vehicle sales of 10% year-over-year (YoY). That is basically the same result when compared to September, when their sales dropped 9%.
But just like September when Ford’s EV sales jumped +197.3% to 4,694 units, their EV sales in October helped keep their overall figures from seeing an even bigger decline.
According to Ford they sold 6,261 EVs in October, an increase of more than 33% from the previous month, and more than 120% compared to the same time period last year.
Leading the way was the F-150 Lightning which made up 2,436 of those sales, making October the electric truck’s best month since sales launched in late May.
Still struggling through supply chain issues, Mustang Mach-E sales totaled 3,055 last month, an increase of just 7.3% compared to October 2021.
Ford’s only other EV, their e-Transit commercial van, sold 770 units, bringing its volume this year to 5,157 units. Ford says this is 11 times more than Rivian’s EDV700 van.
While the EV sales figures are impressive in terms of their percentage increases, they are still very small in the overall picture of the EV marketplace, and show that Ford is still severely constrained on the production side.
The automaker stopped taking orders for some configurations of the Mach-E based on high demand, yet is still only delivering just over 3,000 units in a single month. This compares to the segment leader, the Tesla Model Y, which sells more than 10 times that amount in a month.
