Ford, for the first time in its history, produced more electric Mustangs than gas Mustangs. So far, in 2021, the American auto manufacturer produced 27,861 Mustang Mach-E EV’s and 26,089 gas Mustangs.
According to Ford, the move is not due to the over-production of the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Instead, the Mach-E has sold out, and the wait for a new Mach-E model is in the months.
Although over 2000 Mach-E’s are available across the US, everyone is above MSRP. Thus, the demand is real, and as the car goes global, demand will only increase.
However, the real test of Mach-E is still coming. Vehicles generally have outstanding sales records in their first year due to pent up demand. However, the second year is where the real winners and losers are determined, and if demand keeps up, Ford has a stunning success on its hands.
For those traditional Mustang lovers, do not worry. The gas Mustang is not going away any time soon. Instead, the real story is the Mach-E is an early winner for the family crossover, and not many in the industry predicted this six months ago.
