Elon Musk’s The Boring Company may be building housing development for its staff in Austin

Elon Musk is steadily increasing his business footprint in Texas. His tunnel-digging company, The Boring Company, may be teaming up with Lennar Corp. to construct housing for the staff in Bastrop County, Austin, Texas, according to filed documents seen by the Austin Business Journal.

The Miami-based Lennar is collaborating with The Boring Company to develop a 110-home project off FM 1209, close to FM 969.

Bastrop County Commissioner Mel Hanner, whose jurisdiction covers the site, revealed the project during a court meeting earlier this month. It is a code-named Project Amazing. He said the purpose is to support the company’s workers there.

The proposed site has been traced to shell companies tied to Musk and his companies. It is close to 450 acres in size. Stormwater dumping facilities have also been proposed for the site.

According to documents, The Boring Company is applying for a new layout at the site. The paperwork revealed street names such as Cutterhead Xing, Porpoise Place, Boring Boulevard, and Waterjet Way.

Interestingly, Lennar is an investor in SpaceX. It was the second-largest homebuilder in the country in 2022, with more than $25 billion in revenue.

Musk’s business presence is growing in Texas, where he now lives. Estimates show that the Tesla factory alone employs more than 10,000 workers.

The Boring Company filed plans for a tunnel underneath the Austin Convention Center last year. However, the company is not above selling gag products, like Burnt Hair cologne and flamethrowers.
