Dubai’s Taxi Corporation adds Tesla Model 3s to its fleet

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the addition of Tesla Model 3‘s to Dubai Taxi Corporation’s operations.

Since 2017, the RTA has been testing out various Tesla vehicles for operation within Dubai in the RTA’s higher-end limo service.

These trials included 80 Model S, 42 Model 3 and 50 Model X vehicles, which according to the organization was a “huge success.”

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA had this to say on the success of the trial and new deal.

These vehicles [Tesla’s] recorded positive indicators in operational efficiency, especially in terms of zero carbon emissions and a high customer satisfaction rating. The success of that experiment prompts us to widen the scope of using electric vehicles as part of the Dubai Taxi fleet over the upcoming years. It supports the initiative of converting 90 per cent of the limo fleet in Dubai into eco-friendly vehicles (hybrid/electric) by 2026. The initiative is the first of its kind worldwide in adopting a semi-total transformation of limousines into environmentally-friendly vehicles. (via Khaleej Times)

The new Model 3’s will serve all events and hotspots within the city, including the Dubai airport.

The RTA did not confirm the number of Model 3’s. Nor did they confirm the cost of the investment or when the fleet would take ownership of the vehicles.

However, you will soon be able to grab a ride from Dubai airport into the city in a Model 3 taxi.
