Domino’s has announced it is going electric and adding 800 Chevy Bolt EVs to its delivery fleet in the US, easily making it the largest electric pizza delivery fleet in the country.
Domino’s says that more than 100 are being delivered to stores throughout the US this month, with the remaining 700 units expected to arrive “in the coming months,” which will help the company achieve its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“Domino’s launched pizza delivery in 1960 with a Volkswagen Beetle, rolled out the DXP® – a custom-built pizza delivery vehicle – in 2015, tested autonomous pizza delivery with cars and robots, and is now leading the charge in the future of pizza delivery,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s chief executive officer. “Domino’s has always been on the cutting edge of pizza delivery and electric delivery cars make sense as vehicle technology continues to evolve. We’ve made a commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and this is one way we can begin reducing our environmental impact, one delivery at a time.”
In a press release announcing the new green delivery fleet, Domino’s says EVs provide a number of advantages over their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts, like lower fuel and maintenance costs.
These are obviously factors every potential EV owner considers before making the switch, but the effects are amplified even further when spread across a nationwide delivery fleet.
The company also highlighted they will be able to attract more drivers who don’t have a car of their own.
While the Chevy Bolt EVs are the first electric delivery cars for Domino’s, they already deliver pizzas with electric bikes and scooters in the US and 23 other international markets.
If you want to know if your local Domino’s will be receiving a Chevy Bolt EV, the company even set up an interactive map of how many are in each state and how many are coming soon at dominos.com/evfleet.
