Siddhant Awasthi, the program manager responsible for bringing the Cybertruck to production, has announced his departure from Tesla after more than eight years with the company.
Awasthi joined Tesla as an intern in August 2017 and quickly rose through the ranks, contributing to some of the automaker’s most important projects—including the Model 3 ramp, Giga Shanghai development, and most recently the Cybertruck’s launch.
In a post on X, he called leaving Tesla “one of the hardest decisions” of his life.
“Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day have the opportunity to lead the Cybertruck program and bring it to reality,” Awasthi wrote. “It’s been an absolute privilege filled with mostly high-intensity days—working alongside talented, driven, and truly rockstar colleagues across Tesla.”
During his tenure, Awasthi helped guide Tesla through several major vehicle and manufacturing milestones. Beyond the Cybertruck, he worked on the Model 3’s global rollout, new vehicle electronics and wireless architectures, and the refreshed Model 3 project before departing.
“This decision wasn’t easy, especially with so much exciting growth on the horizon,” he added. “Tesla vehicles are incredibly complex systems that often don’t get the credit they deserve, but I’ve witnessed firsthand how they’ve changed lives—adding real value and improving safety.”
Before he joined Tesla, Awasthi worked as a Transponics Engineer at Hyperloop UC, where he helped design an electrical system to propel and control the transportation pod that was used in SpaceX’s annual Hyperloop pod competition.
While Awasthi did not disclose his next move, he said he remains confident in Tesla’s future direction, particularly following the company’s announcements at last week’s shareholder meeting.
His departure marks another high-profile exit from Tesla’s engineering and program leadership teams this year, as the company prepares for its next wave of new vehicle programs.
