Statistics Canada has released its 2023 fourth-quarter stats on new motor vehicle registrations, and the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) and hybrid market in Canada continues to grow.
In terms of overall registration in Q4, battery electric and hybrid dominated the zero-emission vehicle and hybrid category, with plug-in hybrid vehicles lagging behind. In total, over 86,000 ZEVs were purchased in the final three months of 2023 in Canada.

Put it all together, and the numbers show that Canada is on track to meet its 20% zero-emission vehicle sales target by 2026 if sales continue at this pace. With a multitude of new EVs coming into Canada over the next few months and years, the 2026 goal is certainly attainable.
According to charts created by Jeff Boichuk on X, formally Twitter, we are on pace, but it will require continued strong sales and new records nationwide, especially in the battery electric segment.
