Through a new initiative, Aviva Canada plans to introduce Level 2 EV chargers to seven under-served communities in Ontario that lack EV infrastructure.
Per the Canadian Auto Dealer, the Charged for Change initiative will provide six to ten Level 2 EV chargers to communities through a $3m partnership with Earth Day Canada.
Communities can apply for funding to receive the charging stations over the next three years.
The communities that will receive the EV charging stations this year are:
- the Township of Manitouwadge
- the Town of Thessalon
- the Municipality of East Ferris
- the Township of Essa
- the Township of Selwyn
- the County of Prince Edward, and
- the Town of Pelham.
Aviva Canada’s CEO, Jason Storah, said that accessibility to charging infrastructure was key for Canadians considering transitioning to EVs. He added that Aviva believed the program “can help more Canadians across the country make the switch to a low-carbon economy.”
Through the Earth Day Canada partnership, Aviva will work with municipalities and utility suppliers over the next three years to install EV charging station infrastructure in specific communities.
The Executive Director of Earth Day Canada, Valérie Mallamo, said these programs could help communities transition to electric vehicles by giving them access to charging infrastructure near their homes and work.
