Ford’s partnership with Volkswagen will soon bear fruit in the open as the American company unveils a new electric SUV on March 21st. The new crossover is based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
Ford’s European passenger car head Martin Sander posted on his LinkedIn profile that it is time to start getting excited as the company reveals a European car next month.
The LinkedIn post confirms the date of the reveal. It also hinted at the name of the new SUV by including the hashtag’ #ExploringReinvented.’ Ford actually sells a large SUV in Europe under the name ‘Explorer.’
Interestingly, the EV prototype bears similar proportions to the ICE Explorer.
Ford is open to adopting the names of its popular ICEs for its next-generation EVs. It has succeeded with the electric Mustang Mach-E, which many people associate with its popular gas-powered Mustang line.
The prototype’s size indicates the electric SUV is based on the platform variant used by the ID.4 instead of the shorter ID.3 and Cupra Born hatchbacks.
Speculations are the new Ford EV will offer rear- and all-wheel drive options. Buyers may also get up to 480 km (300 miles) of driving range.
