20 stall Tesla Supercharger proposed for Santa Maria, California

Santa Maria City Council will vote on a proposal next week to approve a lease with Tesla to install a 20 stall Supercharger.

A draft of the lease between the city and Tesla shows the agreement would be for five years, with two 5 year options for renewal, providing for a potential 15 year lease.

As part of the agreement, Tesla will install a 20 stall Supercharger at the Town Center East garage at 371 Town Center E. In order to cater to more than just Tesla vehicles, 12 generic level 2 chargers will also be installed at the site.

The automaker has also agreed to pay the city $20,000 per year in rent, which will increase 3% after five years.

The Director of Recreation and Parks Alex Posada is recommending the approval of the lease. In a report to council he says the Supercharger stations will benefit the community economically, as well as save the city money by not having to install EV chargers themselves.
