Tesla looks to be preparing to bring back the 7-seat version of the Model Y, according to a new email sent to customers last week.
The email teased that the new redesigned Model Y will be “ready for anything with long range, seating for up to seven, and enough room for everyone’s gear,” signaling that the three-row configuration will soon be available with the refreshed design.
This marks the latest development in what has been a stop-start journey for the 7-seat Model Y in Canada. The third-row seating option was first introduced in early 2021, launching at an additional cost of C$4,000. It was available with the Long Range All-Wheel Drive trim, offering Canadian families an electric SUV alternative with the flexibility of additional seating.
However, the option quietly disappeared from the Canadian order configurator in 2022 as Tesla began importing Chinese-made Model Y vehicles, which at the time were only available in a 5-seat layout. At one point, the 7-seat configuration had risen in price to C$5,300, before being removed entirely from new orders.
The third row eventually made a comeback in Canada around mid-2024, reappearing at a reduced price of C$4,000. But it remained limited in scope: only certain Model Y trims were eligible, with black interiors required, and the Performance variant excluded from the option altogether.
Now, Tesla appears set to expand that offering with the redesigned Model Y, known internally as “Project Juniper.” While the refreshed 5-seat Launch Series began deliveries in March 2025 at a starting price of $84,990, Tesla had previously confirmed that the 7-seat configuration would return later this year. This week’s customer email signals that its arrival may be imminent.
As of now, the 7-seat option is not yet available to order in Tesla’s Canadian or U.S. online configurators, but prospective buyers can expect its reintroduction later in 2025, but whether it returns at C$4,000 remains to be seen.
