Tesla ends sales of Model Y Launch Series in Europe, introduces regular lineup

Tesla has officially ended sales of the Model Y Launch Series in Europe and has introduced the “regular” lineup of configurations for the electric SUV.

According to an update to the Design Studio in a number of European countries on Friday, customers can now choose between the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model Y, Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD), and Long Range All-Wheel Drive (LR AWD) variants, all in the new and updated design.

In Germany, Tesla’s updated Model Y lineup is priced as follows:

  • RWD – €44,990 (unchanged from the legacy Model Y)
  • Long Range RWD – €49,990 (an increase of €1,000)
  • Long Range AWD – €52,990 (a decrease of €2,000)

Unlike the Launch Series, which were limited in their paint options, these Model Ys are available in the full array of Tesla’s typical paint choices from Giga Berlin – Pearl White, Solid Black, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver, and Ultra Red. One notable exception is Midnight Cherry Red, which is absent from the lineup. It is unclear if it will return, of if this is the end for the paint colour that was exclusive to Giga Berlin.

Tesla’s online configurator says the first deliveries of these new Model Ys are expected to take place in May or June.

Tesla’s decision to introduce its standard Model Y lineup in Europe comes just a few weeks after the Launch Series made its debut in the region. Price at €60,990, the Launch Series Model Y came with a number of accessories and trim pieces exclusive to the limited-edition variant. Customers could also add any option at no extra cost, and it also included Full Self-Driving (FSD) and the Acceleration Boost, making it a good deal if you were going to buy a full spec’d Model Y to begin with.

The price drop on the Long Range AWD model is particularly notable, as it makes the Dual-Motor version of the Model Y more accessible, despite all the upgrades that come with the new design.

There have been no similar changes to the Design Studio in North America, as only the Launch Series remains available to purchase, along with the legacy Model Y in all trims.
