What’s inside a Tesla Model S engine?

One of the key benefits of an electric motor versus an internal combustion engine (ICE) is that there are much fewer moving parts in an electric motor. That means that there is much less to go wrong in an electric motor, so your maintenance costs over the life of the vehicle will also be much less compared to an ICE vehicle (and dealerships make most of their money off servicing).

The folks over at What’s Inside? recently got their hands on a Tesla Model S engine from 2012 and decided to take it apart just to see exactly…what’s inside. It is still amazing the amount of technology that Tesla was able to fit in this rear motor, even 7 years ago.

I’m glad they took apart this engine for me to see what’s inside, because I hope that I never have to see the inside of mine! If you’ve got some time, check out the full video below.
