Tesla raises Model S/X prices in Canada and the US

Tesla has increased prices of the Model S and Model X in North America, with prices increasing as much as $6,000 in Canada and $2,000 in the US.

Model S/X Price Increases in Canada

According to an update to the Design Studio on Thursday night, the price of the Model S All-Wheel Drive (AWD) has increased by $6,000, the biggest price increase of the night. The entry-level Model S now starts at $103,990 in Canada, up from the previous price of $97,990.

The Model S Plaid meanwhile saw a smaller increase of $2,000, pushing it to $124,990.

For the Model X, both the AWD and Plaid variants saw $3,000 price increases, now starting at $110,990 and $131,990 respectively.

These are the first price increase for Tesla’s two flagship vehicles in Canada in 2024. Previously Tesla had lowered prices across their entire lineup back in April.

Model S/X Price Increases in the US

As often happens, Tesla also increased prices of the Model S/X in the US. The changes are easier to track south of the border, as all variants of both vehicles increased by $2,000. Below are the new prices.

The price increases come after the Model S and Model X had lackluster sales in the second quarter. Tesla no longer provides sales figures for the Model S/X, instead now lumping their sales together with the Cybertruck and Semi.

In Tesla’s Q2 2024 production and delivery report, the company said a total 21,551 “Other Models” were delivered in the three month period. However, thanks to some Cybertruck recalls, we have a pretty good idea that around 10-12,000 Cybertrucks were delivered during that time period, leaving Model S/X deliveries somewhere around 10,000 or more.

This is well below historical figures for the Model S/X, which for most of 2022 and 2023 were around 15-20,000 units, with the exception of Q1 2023, which had 10,695 deliveries.
