Earlier this summer when Tesla deployed the 2020.24.6.4 software update, the release notes indicated a new SiriusXM user interface (UI) for Model S and Model X owners.
Despite being in the release notes, the improvements didn’t actually begin appearing in vehicles until 2 months later. To entice owners to sign up for the satellite radio service, Tesla also began offering a free 3-month subscription.
Unfortunately Canadians were once again left out of the party as the new UI didn’t appear and the 3-month trial wasn’t offered north of the border.
That has now all changed as two Model S owners have let Drive Tesla know the new UI has appeared without any notification.
Both owners tell us they were on software version 2020.36.3.1 when the new SiriusXM icon appeared in the audio menu at the bottom of their screen. After tapping on it, the new UI was displayed making it much easier to find the music and stations you want to listen to.
Both owners also told us they were also automatically signed up for the 3-month free trial, despite already having a SiriusXM subscription.
SiriusXM provides a great alternative to Tesla’s Premium Connectivity option, which brings streaming music to those owners who pay the monthly fee.
What makes SiriusXM different is that it works on a satellite connection rather than an internet connection, meaning it should be more reliable in remote areas.
Let us know in the comments below if you also have the new SiriusXM UI and 3-month free trial.
