Tesla removes one speaker from Premium Interior in North American built Model 3/Y

One of the most underrated features of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y with the Premium Interior is the sound system, which rivals that of almost any luxury automobile.

Tesla has now quietly changed the audio setup for the Premium Interior, reducing the number of speakers from 14 to 13.

There has been no change to the other components, with the page listed the Premium audio package as having “13 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amps and immersive sound. (h/t: @tesla_adri)

The change is noted on the ‘Specs’ page of both the Model 3 and Model Y.

We don’t know yet which speaker has been removed. The previous setup included 10 speakers at the front of the cabin, and four at the rear, so the likely candidate is one of the front speakers.

There has been no change to the Partial Premium audio, and no change in price for either vehicle to reflect the new speaker arrangement.

The change to the audio setup in cars built in Fremont follows the same change at Giga Shanghai earlier this month. On December 6 it was noted by local media in China that the number of speakers had been reduced from 15 to 14 (when including the subwoofer).
