Tesla posted their best ever Q1 production and delivery numbers earlier this month, selling nearly 185,000 vehicles around the world. The record breaking quarter was achieved thanks in part to France, where the Tesla Model 3 outsold local automakers Renault and Peugeot.
In the first three months of the year, Tesla sold 5,763 Model 3’s. That figure was enough to give it a market leading 18.9% share of EV sales in the country.
Making the numbers even more impressive was that the Model 3 was able to outsell hometown favourites. Peugeot sold 4,497 (14.75%) E-208 vehicles, while the Renault Zoe registered 3,606 (11.83%) sales in the same time period.
The strong performance by the Model 3 was propelled by sales in March. Tesla handily outsold the competition, passing 4,524 Model 3’s to new owners, compared to 1,667 Peugeot E-208’s and 1,519 Renault Zoe EVs.
Volkswagen’s ID.3 came in a distant seventh place with just 527 sales in the month.
The overall EV market in France remains strong. In March nearly 7% of all new passenger vehicle registrations were electric.
