Accident in Shanghai shows off impressive Tesla Model 3 roof strength

One of the most impressive features of the Tesla Model 3 is its expansive glass roof. Not only is it beautiful to look at, it has also tested to be strong enough to hold the weight of two full-grown elephants.

That strength was on display yesterday in Shanghai, China as a Midnight Silver Metallic Model 3 was involved in an accident with a VW Tiguan SUV.

In images shared on Twitter by Yan Chang, we can see the Model 3 has completely flipped on to its roof. That alone is worth a mention, as the Model 3 has proven to be very difficult to roll over in numerous safety tests.

According to Chang, the occupants of the vehicle were unharmed and able to walk away from the accident, with the cabin entirely intact. As you can see from the images, the impact was violent enough to cause the airbags to deploy.

We have seen examples of the strength of the glass roof in the Model 3 before. The most notable was this accident last year, where a driver drove straight into a concrete utility pole, only to have it fall directly on his roof (and it was caught on TeslaCam).
