Tesla made significant strides in expanding its Supercharger network during the final quarter of 2024, adding 3,600 new stalls globally. This represents an impressive 19% increase compared to the same period last year, solidifying Tesla’s leadership in EV infrastructure.
Tesla’s Supercharger network isn’t just expanding in numbers but also in capacity and efficiency. In Q4 2024 alone, the company delivered 1.4 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity through its global network. This marks a 24% year-over-year increase in energy deployed, highlighting growing utilization and the network’s ability to support the ever increasing fleet of Tesla vehicles on the road.
The environmental benefits of this expansion are also substantial. Tesla estimates that the additional Supercharger stalls contributed to saving over 620 million liters of gasoline, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.4 billion kilograms, aligning with Tesla’s broader mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
To put this growth into perspective, the 3,600 new stalls equate to approximately 40 new Supercharger stalls opening every single day for three consecutive months. This level of deployment underscores Tesla’s operational efficiency and the dedication of the Tesla Charging team, whose efforts are critical to meeting the increasing demand for fast and reliable EV charging.
This growth comes despite concerns earlier in 2024 when Tesla announced layoffs affecting the Supercharger team. The layoffs, part of broader cost-cutting measures, initially led to fears that the expansion of the Supercharger network might slow down. However, Tesla’s ability to deliver record growth in Q4 has demonstrated the company’s resilience and prioritization of charging infrastructure.
As Tesla looks ahead to 2025, the company is expected to continue rapidly expanding its network. Tesla has also said it will be debuting its V4 Supercharger cabinets this year, which will allow charging speeds of up to 500kW.
