Elon Musk confirms Tesla robotaxi unveil event delay

Elon Musk has confirmed that the unveiling of the Tesla robotaxi will be delayed. While Musk didn’t reveal when the event will now take place, he did provide some insight as to the reason for the delay.

Earlier this year Musk surprised everybody by announcing that Tesla would unveil its robotaxi design with a special event on August 8, 2024. The announcement came following a report that claimed Tesla had shelved plans for its next-generation $25K car, commonly referred to as ‘Model 2,’ deciding instead to develop a robotaxi.

Then a new report from Bloomberg emerged last week claiming that Tesla had decided to delay the event to October, with the publication’s sources saying the delay was to allow the team to build more prototypes.

After a few days of silence, Musk confirmed on Monday that the event has been delayed. In a post on X, Musk didn’t provide a new date for the robotaxi unveil event, but did explain the delay was due to an “important design change to the front” of the vehicle that he had personally requested.

Musk also teased the delay will give them extra time “to show off a few other things,” without providing further details.
