Tesla marked a milestone by delivering the first 10 Cybertrucks at Giga Texas on Thursday. After four years of anticipation, the event finally provided concrete details on the electric pickup’s pricing, range, trims, and impressive features.
Pricing and Trims
The Cybertruck, initially announced with price points of $39,990, $49,990, and $69,990, has seen some substantial price adjustments in response to macroeconomic changes over the past four years. The new trims and prices are as follows: (note that no Canadian pricing has been announced, so the figures below are just the straight conversion)
- Tri-Motor “Cyberbeast” – $99,990 ($135,500 CAD)
- Dual-Motor All-Wheel-Drive – $79,990 ($108,400 CAD)
- Rear-Wheel-Drive – $60,990 ($82.700 CAD)
According to Tesla the RWD version will arrive in 2025, and deliveries of the Dual-Motor and Tri-Motor configurations are slated for “2024.”
Cybertruck Range
The Cybertruck’s range has been a focal point for potential buyers. Initial claims mentioned by Tesla were for 500 miles for the Tri-Motor, 300 miles for the Dual Motor, and 250 miles for the Single Motor. However, even though Elon Musk made no mention of range during the delivery event, the company provided updated figures on their website.
- Tri-Motor “Cyberbeast” – 320 miles (515 km), or with the Range Extender up to 440+ miles (708+km)
- Dual-Motor All-Wheel-Drive – 340 miles (547 km), + Range Extender to 470+ miles (756+km)
- Rear-Wheel-Drive – 250 miles (402km)
As you can see the range increases substantially with an optional Range Extender, which fits in the bed of the truck. According to Elon Musk it will eat up about ⅓ of the bed space, and is meant for very long trips or towing something heavy things up mountains. There has been no word on pricing or when it will be available.
Other Specs and Features
- Towing Power: Boasting an 11,000-pound towing capacity, the Cybertruck outperformed rivals by hauling SpaceX equipment and pulling a 40,000-pound sled further than a Ford F-350 Diesel, Rivian R1T, and F-150 Lightning.
- Off-Roading Prowess: With adjustable ride height features and a remarkable 17-inch ground clearance, the Cybertruck promises exceptional off-road capabilities.
- Steer-by-Wire: Tesla introduced steer-by-wire technology in the Cybertruck, which enhances low-speed maneuverability, in tight spaces with variable turning ratio.
- Performance Metrics: The Cybertruck is no slouch when it comes to speed:
- Tri-Motor “Cyberbeast” – 0-60 MPH in 2.6 seconds
- Dual-Motor All-Wheel-Drive – 0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds
- Rear-Wheel-Drive – 0-60 MPH in 6.5 seconds
- Powershare: The Cybertruck comes with bi-directional charging, a first for a Tesla vehicle, which can power your home, provide power to tools and other equipment on the go, and also charge other EVs.
- Home Backup – Max Continuous Real Power – 11.5 kW
- Bed Outlets – Max Continuous Real Power 9.6 kW
