Tesla Model Y Is Europe’s Best-Selling Car in September & for 9 Months of Year

The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in Europe in September, according to preliminary data. The electric SUV also retains its leadership in the region based on the results of the first nine months of the year.

Tesla Model Y wins another victory. According to preliminary data from Dataforce (via Automotive News Europe), the electric SUV was the best-selling vehicle of any type in Europe in September. Despite weaker demand, it led the Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio last month and significantly increased its lead over the Dacia Sandero in the overall standings. The electric SUV takes the top spot for the sixth time this year.

Tesla registered sales of 26,370 Model Ys. At the same time, Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio, despite increasing sales by 11 percent and 26 percent respectively last month, were unable to catch up with the American company’s electric SUV. The Clio faces stiff competition from the fast-growing Volkswagen Golf, which saw sales rise by 21 percent to 19,317 units. According to preliminary data, the Dacia Sandero rounds out the top five with 18,587 sales, up 7.6 percent on the same month last year. It is worth keeping in mind that several other markets have not reported their September figures. This means that the number of units sold may change, although not significantly.

Tesla Model Y sales remain strong across Europe. Combining sales data for all nine months of 2023, it is clear that Model Y continues to lead the way as the best-selling vehicle in the region. Although official data has not yet been published, a calculation can be made. Model Y was the best-selling car in Europe in the first eight months of 2023. Between January and August, 151,191 units were sold in Europe. Combining the data, it appears that at least 177,561 units were registered over the nine-month period. At the same time, number two, Dacia Sandero, sold no less than 166,667, some 11,000 less than Model Y. This means that Model Y continues to hold its place as the best-selling car in Europe.
