Tesla increases Supercharger prices in Canada by as much as 25%

Tesla has adjusted Supercharger prices in Canada on Monday. Stations in British Columbia have seen prices go down, while all other provinces have seen prices go up, in some cases substantially.

When Tesla switched to kWh billing in August, British Columbia had the lowest Supercharger rates in Canada, and after this latest round of price adjustments, the price gap between the west coast and the rest of the country has increased even further. Drive Tesla reviewed several stations in BC that went down in price, like the new V3 station in Nanaimo (Island Hwy) that dropped from $0.47 to $0.35 per kWh. The Victoria Supercharger, also on Vancouver Island, dropped from $0.29 to $0.22. On the mainland the cheapest Supercharger in the country in Delta has stayed the same at just $0.10 per kWh, even cheaper than plugging in at home.

Once you start heading east of BC however, it is a different story. In Alberta all stations have seen their prices go up, from $0.48 to $0.59 or $0.60 per kWh, a 25% jump. The same is true for the rest of the central provinces, with the standard rate at most increasing to $0.59/kWh.

Ontario saw the biggest price jump. During peak hours, which are from 1:00pm until 8:00pm, Supercharging now costs $0.73 per kWh at many of the stations Drive Tesla reviewed, compared to about $0.60 previously (+22%). For a 20% to 80% charge on a Model Y Long Range, that works out to almost $35, whereas previously that would have cost around $28.

This isn’t the first price change since Tesla implement kWh billing in Canada. Last month prices were also increased, along with the implementation of time-of-use rates.
