Tesla deploys 2020.12.6 software update with public release of Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control (Beta)

For some lucky owners in the US, Tesla appears to have started with wide release of their latest software update with some exciting new features that we first saw leaked a few weeks ago.

The arrival of Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control (Beta) is a big step forward for Tesla in their drive towards feature complete Full Self-Driving (FSD).

The new feature, which works when either Autopilot or Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) is active, uses GPS information and the on-board cameras to detect and react to traffic lights and stop signs.

Since this is the first public release of this feature, it is still in beta. As a result, the feature will stop at all traffic lights, regardless of what stage they are at (red, yellow, green). In order to proceed through a green light, the driver will have to confirm they want to proceed, by either slightly pressing the accelerator or press down on the gear lever (right stalk).

Unfortunately this feature won’t be coming to Canada any time soon, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk told us it likely won’t be here until later this year due to regulatory requirements.
