Porsche opens sustainable, state-of-the-art charging lounge in Germany

Porsche aims to join the league of EV makers owning and operating their own public charging networks. The German brand has taken another step as it opens its first modern and sustainable Porsche charging lounge in Germany.

In a press release, Porsche details its new charging lounge which is a pilot lounge. It is located close to busy routes just outside Bingen am Rhein, about two minutes from the A60/A61 junction.

Porsche users can take advantage of the rapid charging of six 300 kW DC chargers and four 22 kW AC chargers. 400 kW chargers may become available by the beginning of next year. Billing for charging costs would be handled centrally via debit and credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. There are also opportunities for a quick workout with a workout mirror located inside the lounge.

Apart from the actual charging, the high-end auto brand promises a comfortable ambiance and convenience as drivers wait for their batteries to fill up. The lounges are meant to make drivers on long journeys feel welcome. They could order soft drinks and snacks to pass the time.

Porsche assures owners who are also environmentally conscious that charging is via certified renewable sources. The lounge is air-conditioned by a heat pump that works without fossil fuels.

Porsche plans to bring more charging lounges to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The brand, however, has to deal with falling sales figures in the US.
