Volkswagen raises EV target for Europe

Volkswagen is confident of its EV offerings, and it has become more ambitious in Europe. The automobile giant has significantly increased its sales target for its Volkswagen brand, claiming 80% of all new car sales will be electric by 2030.

The German carmaker had set a target of 70% in 2021 but has now upgraded it to 80%, as reported by Automobilewoche. Volkswagen also revealed that the passenger car segment is doing very well within the group.

Volkswagen expects most of its growth to come from Europe as the target for China, and the US remains unchanged at 50%. The company is the market leader for EVs in Europe. However, it is nowhere near the 80% it wants at the end of the decade.

The share of Volkswagen’s EVs in its total sales was just above 10% last year, and even Volkswagen executives admit its goal is ambitious, with only seven years left to accomplish it. However, the goal shows how committed Volkswagen is to its electrification goals.

Volkswagen released a facelifted ID.3 this month in Wolfsburg. The company will reveal the ID.7 in the next few weeks, with a smaller EV planned for 2025, reportedly costing less than 25,000 euros. The popular Tiguan will be electrified in 2026.
