The Lucid Air was supposed to be unveiled this month, but is now delayed until August

Not surprisingly, the New York International Auto Show has been postponed until at least late summer, as the venue has been taken over to be a temporary hospital during the coronavirus outbreak.

Lucid Motors was planning on unveiling the production version of their first electric vehicle (EV), the Lucid Air, but will instead also delay it until August 2020.

The delay will not impact the production of vehicle which is scheduled to begin later this year, according to Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson. He told the Silicon Valley Business Journal that despite the impacts of the coronavirus, the company was still expanding and hiring employees using phone interviews.

Lucid plans to build 80 initial prototypes of the EV in California. The prototypes will be used for testing and validation of key vehicle components. They will also be used for crash testing to confirm the safety features that have so far only been tested in simulations.

The targeted base price will start at $60,000 USD ($78,300 CAD), reaching up to as much as $100,00 USD ($130,000 CAD) if all options are selected. That puts it right in line to complete with the Tesla Model S.
