Last week we told you about two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that were vandalized in Qualicum Beach, on Vancouver Island. Vandals cut the charging cables just before the connector, with the belief they were stolen for the copper inside.
Now Roy Collver, director of the Mid-Vancouver Island Electric Vehicle Association, has notified local area scrap dealers to be on the lookout for the stolen cables
“These cables are quite unique and are not found anywhere else,” he said. “We need to get this information to scrap dealers so that they can either report stolen cables or at the least, refuse to purchase them from thieves.” (via Nanaimo Bulletin)
In addition to notifying scrap dealers, the EV community on the island has raised $300 to put up as a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the thieves.
