Polestar and Luminar announced the two companies are expanding their successful partnership with LiDAR technology.
According to a press release, the two companies will expand their collaboration and integration of long-range LiDAR technology in future Polestar vehicles. Most importantly, this includes the upcoming Polestar 5.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath had this to say about the announcement.
Luminar is at the forefront of long-range LiDAR technology, and this closer collaboration will allow for greater innovation in our cars to come. We look forward to combining our R&D and product design expertise to deliver truly stunning LiDAR integration and capabilities for the Polestar brand.
Currently, Luminar supplies LiDAR for the Polestar 3, and the partnership has been great. The vehicle is starting deliveries in 2024, and customer orders have been strong so far. The Polestar 3 will be the first Polestar vehicle with LiDAR installed.
While the Polestar 5 will launch in 2024 based on the Polestar Precept concept car. The new partnership will enable Polestar to utilise Luminar’s 3D laser scanning technology within the upcoming vehicle design.
