Tesla has updated their website with huge price cuts for all of their vehicles in Canada on Thursday night. While it wasn’t the biggest price cut, the most important price cut goes to the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant as it now falls below the threshold for the $5,000 iZEV incentive.
Model 3 Price Changes
Late in 2021 Tesla increased the price of the Model 3 RWD to $59,990, putting it above the $55,000 threshold for the $5,000 iZEV incentive in Canada. Since it was no longer under that threshold Tesla also removed the software-limited 151km variant priced under $45,000, which allowed the RWD variant to also qualify under the program’s rules.
Until tonight the entry-level variant was still priced at $59,990, but now that price has been reduced to $54,990, putting it below the iZEV threshold. However during that time Transport Canada also updated the program requirements and increased the threshold from $45,000 to $55,000, meaning the Model 3 RWD is once again eligible for the iZEV incentive.
Tesla’s website still says that none of their vehicles are eligible for the federal incentive, but does list the MSRP on its Incentives page as $54,990. Transport Canada’s list of eligible vehicles does not include the Model 3 RWD, but we expect this to be updated soon.
UPDATE January 13 10:07am PT: Transport Canada’s website has been updated and the Model 3 RWD is now listed as eligible for the iZEV incentive as of today.
UPDATE 10:10pm PT: We have been quite a few questions about the Model 3 RWD pricing. On Tesla’s website the configurator shows $54,990, however at the bottom of the page it shows $56,990. This is because the bottom price includes various fees which add up to $2,000, as seen in the screenshot below (click to enlarge). According to Transport Canada, vehicles are still eligible for the incentive even if fees and options push the actual purchase price over the threshold. Based on all of this the Model 3 RWD should qualify for the incentive, but we will have to wait for official word from Transport Canada.
The Performance variant also saw a price cut, now down 15% from $83,990 to $72,990. The Long Range variant is still not available to order.
UPDATE 9:08pm PT: There are some LR vehicles in existing inventory, which are now priced at $67,990. When they were removed from the Design Studio they were priced at $76,990, so this appears to be about a 13% price cut.

Model Y Price Changes
The Model Y has been through several successive price increases over the last couple of years, bringing the LR variant up to $85,000. Now all of those price increases have been erased and the LR is back to its original price of $69,990, a drop of 21%.
Last year Transport Canada expanded the iZEV regulations to include SUVs, but unfortunately that still has a price cap of $60,000, so the Model Y still does not qualify.
The Performance also saw a massive price drop, down 18% from $90,000 to $75,990.

Model S Price Changes
Even Tesla’s flagship vehicles saw big price cuts. Unfortunately they are all still priced above $100,000, meaning they are still subject to Canada’s luxury tax.

Model X Price Changes
