Polestar has finally taken the covers off their next electric vehicle, the Polestar 3. The electric SUV packs some impressive specs that should make it a competitor to the Tesla Model Y, but it is priced higher at $97,400 CAD or $85,300 USD.
The Polestar 3 features a standard dual-motor all-wheel drive setup that provides as much as 517 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque when the Performance package is added. Opting for the standard dual-motor setup with still pack a punch with 489 horsepower and 620lb-ft of torque.
Either setup will get the Polestar 2 to 60mph in under 5 seconds, with the standard dual-motor reaching 60mph in 4.9 seconds, while the Performance packages cuts that to 4.6 seconds.
Those dual motors are powered by a large 111 kWh (107kWh usable) prismatic battery from CATL that should provide the Polestar 3 with up to 482km (300 miles) of range once it is certified by the EPA. Range is also extended in winter thanks to a standard heat pump.
Polestar 3 is also equipped with bi-directional charging, although the feature won’t be active when the vehicle is first launched.
On the inside the Polestar 3 features a standard 14.5″ center display with Android Automotive OS, and is the first car in the world to have Google built-in.
The electric SUV is also the first Polestar car to feature centralized computing with the NVIDIA DRIVE core computer. The computer processes data from the car’s multiple sensors and cameras to enable advanced driver-assistance safety features and driver monitoring.
All Polestar 3 SUVs come standard with air suspension, a full-length panoramic glass roof, all-LED lighting, retractable door handles with proximity sensing, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
