Tesla Giga Berlin achieves 2,000 Model Y production per week milestone

Tesla’s German operation is ramping up. The EV company produced 2,000 units of the Model Y at its new factory Giga Berlin this week.

The official Tesla account shared the milestone on Twitter, showing the 2000th car surrounded by factory staff.

with the achievement Tesla has now attained a run rate of over 100,000 units annually.

Giga Berlin’s recent output is remarkable, given that Tesla has to cope with supply chain problems like the rest of the industry.

Back in June, Tesla reported it was producing 1,000 units of the Model Y per week at Giga Berlin. It took just three months to double the output.

However, Tesla plans to end the year making 5,000 cars per week at the factory. It remains to be seen if it can pull this off, especially as it pushed back plans for a third shift at the plant.

Battery production at Giga Berlin will also be ramped up soon.

The cars from Giga Berlin are sold in Europe, relieving the pressure on Giga Shanghai and the Freemont factory.

Cars built at the factory will also be shipped to Taiwan.

Tesla does not have a shortage of buyers but has been trying to reduce customer waiting times after placing orders.
