The next time you visit Ikea you might not only be able to buy a PoƤng chair but also solar panels for your home. The Swedish retail giant is partnering with residential energy services provider SunPower to offer home solar solutions to its customers.
Conveniently called ‘Home Solar,’ the program will only be available to customers that are part of the IKEA Family customer loyalty program in the United States. The program will first launch in select California markets later this fall, but is expected to expand to other regions at a later date.
“The launch of Home Solar with IKEA will allow more people to take greater control of their energy needs, and our goal is to offer the clean energy service at additional IKEA locations in the future,” said Javier QuiƱones, CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA U.S.
Ikea didn’t announce any sort of pricing, either for the panels themselves or how much it will cost to install them. The good news is you won’t have to put your Home Solar system together yourself as SunPower will be doing that for you.
“We are thrilled to deliver exceptional solar products to IKEA customers through a unique and simplified buying experience. Together with IKEA, we can help introduce the incredible benefits of solar to more people and deliver on our shared value of making a positive impact on the planet,” saidĀ Peter Faricy, SunPower CEO.
Ikea says the new program will help the company achieve its goal of becoming circular and climate positive by 2030. Ikea has 2 wind farms, 2 solar farms, 2 geothermal systems, seven biogas-fuel cells and rooftop solar arrays on 90% of IKEA locations in the US.
In Canada the company has begun transitioning to an all-electric delivery fleet. The company already has 15 electric delivery trucks from Quebec’s Lion Electric on the roads in British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario, and will add another 30 by the end of the year.
The company has also installed EV chargers in all of its Canadian locations, with the goal of halving relative emissions from its employees and customers by 2030.
