The wait might finally be over. According to a report out of Germany, Tesla’s Giga Berlin-Brandenburg will receive its final approvals later this week.
Tesla is also reportedly planning to hold a grand opening ceremony, and deliver the first made-in-Germany Model Ys to customers on March 22 or 23.
The report comes from the German publication Tagesspiegel, which states that local officials, including Brandenburg Prime Minster Dietmar Woidke, met last week to discuss the approvals.
The ‘Tesla Task Force’ meeting lasted just 20 minutes, with the message being that “all sides are working intensively” to issue the final approvals, which are now expected to arrive before the week is out.
With the impending approval, Tesla is reportedly preparing to host a grand opening ceremony at the factory towards the end of March. Local politicians will be in attendance, and CEO Elon Musk is also expected to fly in for the event, which is expected to have around 500 guests.
Among those guests will be the first Giga Berlin Model Y Performance owners, with the report stating the first 30 cars will be delivered at the event.
The Brandenburg Police have been told to prepare to assist with the event on March 22, but with planning still underway it could happen on March 23, the report stated.
If the report is true, the opening will be several months behind schedule. Tesla was originally hoping to begin production in the second half of 2021, but lengthy public consultations and legal battles pushed the opening into 2022.
