Dogecoin added to Tesla website code after Musk says it will be payment option for merchandise

In December Elon Musk said Tesla was getting back into the world of cryptocurrency. After allowing customers to buy cars with Bitcoin (and then not), the CEO said customers will be able to buy merchandise with his other favorite digital currency – Dogecoin.

Musk didn’t provide a timeline for when it would happen, but it looks like the automaker is preparing to launch the new payment option in the not too distant future.

First spotted by Twitter user Pradeep K (@BitDeepu), Dogecoin has been added to the source code of Tesla’s website. Pradeep found the mention of Dogecoin on the Model Y payment page.

However, as we noted above, Musk said Dogecoin would only be used for merchandise.

After checking the source code of the Tesla Shop, we were able to verify that Dogecoin is also included there.

It should also be noted that while this is the first time the Dogecoin has appeared in the source code, another cryptocurrency SHIBA was found in October 2021, only to be removed shortly after it was discovered.

This time it is different in that Musk has already mentioned it will be accepted at some point in the future.

It is also still in the source code two days after it was first discovered.
