Nikola delivers first two Tre battery-electric semi trucks

While Nikola Corporation founder Trevor Milton continues to battle it out in court over charges of misleading investors, the company reached a major milestone this week.

The company delivered its first two Tre battery-electric semi trucks to Total Transportation Services Inc. (TTSI) on Friday, one of Southern California’s most prominent port trucking companies.

The two Tre semis will form part of a pilot program for TTSI to test the trucks at the port of Los Angeles/Long Beach.

In a press release, TTSI says as many as 14,000 trucks work at the port in any given month, emitting approximately 2,600 tons of nitrogen-oxide emissions.

“This day represents a major step in our continual quest to achieve a zero-emission fleet, which is why TTSI highly values its partnership with Nikola. Production, performance, and maintenance will be the key to our future success, and we are confident Nikola will excel on all three fronts,” said Vic LaRosa, president of TTSI.

Nikola Corp. says the Tre BEV is rated for 350 miles (563km) and designed for local deliveries.

The fuel cell version has yet to be delivered, but the company is targeting 500 miles (804km) of range.

These first deliveries could turn into a long term deal as TTSI has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to purchase 100 zero-emission trucks if the trial is successful.
