Nearly six months to the day after Tesla officially confirmed it was removing radar from newly built cars at its factory in Fremont, California, the automaker appears to have made the same change at Giga Shanghai.
Before Tesla announced the transition to ‘Tesla Vision’ in North America, they updated their website to remove references to radar on the Autopilot pages of its website.
In an update to the Tesla China website last night, the same changes have been made.
The Autopilot page now says the Model 3 and Model Y have 250m of “Powerful visual processing at up to 250 meters of range.”
Previously this said “160m – Forward Facing radar provides a long-range view of distant objects.” (h/t: @42how_)
When the transition to Tesla Vision occurred in North America, it resulted in long delivery delays as the company worked to develop a new version of Autopilot that worked without radar.
Given this has already taken place, there should be no disruption to Tesla’s delivery schedule in China over the coming weeks and months.
