The British Columbia government is making it easier for owners of electric vehicles (EVs) to travel around the province with a large expansion to their EV fast charging network.
A total of 83 new DC fast charging stations were announced by the government on Thursday, helping to connect from southern Vancouver Island all the way up to the northern parts of the province.
Many of the stations have already opened, with others planned to open later this summer or in the fall. The new chargers will help the province reach their target of 100% new light-duty zero emission vehicle (ZEV) sales by 2040.
B.C. has one of the largest public charging networks in Canada. At the end of 2020, there were more than 2,500 public charging stations in B.C., including more than 480 fast-charging stations. The province also has the highest rate of zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption with more than 54,000 ZEVs registered in December 2020.
