Geely to take on Tesla in China with new Zeekr brand of premium EVs

Geely

Geely plans to take on Tesla in China by launching a new premium electric vehicle (EV) brand named ‘Zeekr’.

The plans, which have not yet been made public, would see the new brand be set up under Geely’s new EV entity Lingling Technologies, sources told Reuters.

Taking a page out of Tesla’s playbook, Zeekr showrooms will be opened in city centers to sell cars at a fixed price, deviating from the traditional dealership model.

The Zeekr EVs will be based on the open-source Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform launched late last year, the sources added. The platform supports the development of a number of vehicle types from sedans and SUVs to vans and trucks.
