If you’ve been eagerly awaiting your turn to become a Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta tester, you could be in luck. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed on Twitter the automaker is significantly expanding their testing group.
In a tweet on Friday, Musk said they are doubling the size of the beta program while on the current FSD beta software v8.2. He added that on the next update, v8.3, the program would expand even more by a factor of 10.
If you want the Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta downloaded to your car, let us know. Doubling beta program size now with 8.2 & probably 10X size with 8.3. Still be careful, but it’s getting mature.

We don’t know the exact number of current beta testers. During the company’s Q4 2020 and FY earnings call in January, Musk said there were about 1,000 in the program at the time. We know some have been added since then, so it has grown a bit but likely not by much.
That means Tesla will accepting about another 1,000 beta testers into the program in the next few days.
How do I apply to become a FSD beta tester?
Musk didn’t provide any further details on how exactly to apply to become part of this expansion. Your best bet is to reply to his tweet and hope for the best.
UPDATE: We have learned more information on how to become a FSD beta tester in Canada and the US. Click here for details.
When will FSD beta v8.3 be released?
Until recently, Tesla had been releasing FSD beta software updates on almost a weekly basis. That changed when v8.2 was released earlier this week, more than 30 days after the previous update.
Since v8.3 is an incremental step, it will likely be released within a couple of weeks.
Will this include Canada?
The big question is whether this expansion will include Canada. Musk has said previously Canada and Norway were the two countries next on the list to receive it once the US was “out of early beta.”
Does this expansion of the testing program qualify as coming out of early beta? Hopefully we get an answer soon.
