The Tesla Model Y has bounced back in a big way in Europe, surging to the top of the sales charts in March after a sluggish start to 2026 that saw it fall well outside the top rankings in the first two months of the year.
After ranking just 42nd in January and improving to 14th in February, the all-electric SUV surged to first place in March, marking its first monthly sales win since December 2025. According to Data Force figures reported by Automotive News, registrations jumped 117% year-over-year to 33,723 units, pointing to a strong rebound in demand.
The March result puts the Model Y back in familiar territory. The vehicle was previously Europe’s top-selling car overall in 2023, but had since lost momentum.
Behind Tesla in March were the Nissan Qashqai with 27,832 units and the Renault Clio at 24,294. The Dacia Sandero and Volkswagen Golf rounded out the top five.
Tesla’s rebound wasn’t limited to just one model. The Model 3 also posted a strong March, climbing to 11th place with 18,880 registrations, an increase of 55% compared to the same period last year.
While Tesla dominated March, the Renault Clio maintained consistent sales across all three months, finishing Q1 as Europe’s top-selling vehicle with 55,763 units. The Model Y followed closely in second place however with 51,468 units, ahead of the Volkswagen Golf, Qashqai, and Volkswagen T-Roc.
The results shouldn’t be surprising if you have been following recent news of Tesla’s delivery numbers in Europe, but they are surprising considering the difficulty experienced by the automaker in the region in 2025. After seeing sales drop continuously throughout most of last year, Tesla saw its overall European sales rise 44.9% year-over-year in Q1 2026, reaching 78,336 units and capturing approximately 10.8% of the EV market.
