Tesla plans major Japan service expansion with more than 30 new locations

Tesla is planning to double its Japanese service network to over 30 locations to provide better after-sales support for its growing customer base.

Per Nikkei Asia, Tesla is looking at turnkey properties to accelerate expansion and is targeting former maintenance shops and auto warehouses across the country. In locations without a service centre, Tesla will partner with over 50 local auto care facilities that can access Tesla OEM parts and training.

The reason for the expansion is two-fold in Japan. First, Tesla wants to provide better after-sales support and a larger network of facilities for maintenance checkups to Japanese owners. The second is that, under Japanese law, new vehicles must undergo an auto inspection by an approved mechanic at the three-year mark of ownership. Due to the surge in sales over the past year, Tesla wants to make it easier for its clients to get this inspection and any associated repairs quickly, rather than waiting for months on end.

The move comes as Tesla has seen Japanese sales surge 90% in 2025, with over 10,600 vehicles delivered to customers in Japan. This sales surge was helped in part by limited-time local discounts. However, Tesla has also moved toward an in-person buying experience and expanded its dealer footprint to 30 locations nationwide.
