Tesla Activates Hidden Cybertruck Feature With New Active Road Noise Reduction [2026.2.6.1]

Tesla is unlocking a feature that has been quietly built into the Cybertruck since its launch. With the rollout of software version 2026.2.6.1, the company is enabling Active Road Noise Reduction, bringing advanced cabin noise cancellation technology to the electric pickup.

The new capability appears as a toggle under the vehicle’s Audio settings, allowing Cybertruck owners to reduce unwanted road noise using the truck’s existing hardware.

According to Tesla’s 2026.2.6.1 release notes, “Your vehicle now has the ability to actively reduce low-frequency road noise while driving on rough surfaces. To accomplish this, the system uses the seat microphones to measure the noise in the cabin, then generates anti-noise through the speakers to create quiet zones around occupants.”

Hardware has been there since launch

Interestingly, Cybertrucks have shipped with the necessary hardware since day one, but the feature had never been activated until now.

Tesla embedded microphones within the vehicle’s seats, allowing the system to monitor sound waves inside the cabin. Once the microphones detect low-frequency noise—typically generated by tire contact with rough pavement, gravel roads, or highway surfaces—the system instantly produces opposing sound waves through the vehicle’s speaker system.

The result is active noise cancellation, similar to what is found in premium headphones, but scaled up for an entire vehicle cabin.

Because the process happens continuously and in real time, the system can dynamically adjust as road conditions change.

Designed for rough roads and long drives

While electric vehicles (EVs) are already quieter than gasoline-powered vehicles due to the absence of an internal combustion engine, road and wind noise can still be noticeable—especially in pickup trucks with large tires like the Cybertruck.

Tesla’s Active Road Noise Reduction targets the low-frequency sounds most commonly associated with:

  • Rough pavement
  • Gravel or off-road driving
  • Tire resonance at highway speeds
  • Wind noise at higher speeds

By counteracting those sounds, the Cybertruck cabin can feel noticeably quieter during longer drives. For owners who frequently travel on rural roads, construction zones, or unpaved surfaces, the feature could provide a meaningful improvement in comfort.

Another software upgrade for Cybertruck

Like many Tesla improvements, this capability arrives through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, meaning existing Cybertruck owners can gain the feature without any hardware changes.

Software version 2026.2.6.1 has already started rolling out to some vehicles since yesterday, and owners can check their Tesla mobile app or vehicle display to see if the update is available.

The activation of Active Road Noise Reduction also highlights Tesla’s habit of building hardware into vehicles long before it becomes available through software. By enabling features months—or even years—after a vehicle is delivered, Tesla can continue improving the driving experience over time.
