Tesla adds trade-in estimates to configurator in the U.S., rolling out to Canada this week

Tesla has rolled out a new feature that lets buyers see real-time trade-in estimates directly within its online vehicle configurator — eliminating the need for separate trade-in requests or advisor contact. The feature, now appearing for customers in select U.S. regions, is set to expand to Canada and the rest of the U.S. later this week.

The new functionality allows customers to receive an instant estimate for their current vehicle’s trade-in value while building and pricing a new Tesla. Once the trade-in information is entered, the configurator automatically calculates an estimated credit that updates the final purchase price in real time—streamlining what was previously an entirely separate step.

Existing Tesla owners will also benefit from an additional layer of convenience. Loyalty credits are now automatically applied to the trade-in estimate, giving owners a clear view of their total savings before placing an order.

How It Works

As shown in Tesla’s updated configurator interface, the new feature appears as a “Get Trade-In Value” button beneath the model pricing summary. After selecting it, users are prompted to enter their current vehicle’s details to receive an instant offer, complete with a seven-day validity window.

Once accepted, the trade-in amount is reflected directly in the total vehicle price—simplifying the checkout process.

The new flow eliminates the need for a separate trade-in request on a different part of Tesla’s website, reducing friction and bringing the automaker closer to a one-click purchasing experience that integrates ordering, financing, and delivery scheduling in a single interface.
